Water management
Continued focus on improved
water management:
Progress
Progress on water management at both opera琀椀ons occurred
during the Repor琀椀ng Period
■
reduce water inventory
at Capricorn Copper23
Capricorn Copper signi昀椀cantly reduced water inventory on‑site,
as at 31 December 2023, re昀氀ec琀椀ng investment in water
management infrastructure and the hard work of our team
■
reduce freshwater
draw and increase
water efficiency at
both operations
Post 31 December 2023, rainfall from successive tropical
cyclones resulted in a further accumula琀椀on of water held on
site. Refer to page 3
Freshwater drawn at Capricorn Copper also signi昀椀cantly
reduced as we implemented a new water strategy for the site
u琀椀lising water treatment and recycling for opera琀椀ons – a key
step in establishing a sustainable water balance at the site
Golden Grove evaluated water security opportuni琀椀es,
including poten琀椀al to store and re‑use water used in
mining opera琀椀ons
Progress against
our TCFD roadmap
Implement 2023 actions
in 29Metals’ roadmap
for aligning with TCFD
recommendations

TCFD roadmap, with an expert third party engaged to assist
with our assessment of emissions reduc琀椀on opportuni琀椀es
across the business

Recovery Plan during the Repor琀椀ng Period
Ini琀椀al Scope 3 emissions baseline studies were completed
ahead of plan in early 2023, to iden琀椀fy the materiality of
Scope 3 emissions to the business
Waste management (tailings)
Advance progress towards
long term tailings storage
facilities (‘TSFs’) at both
operations
Con琀椀nued focus on tailings capacity at both opera琀椀ons
Golden Grove completed a li昀琀 on its TSF3 during the
Repor琀椀ng Period, as well submi琀ng its applica琀椀on for
a new long term tailings storage facility (TSF4)
Ac琀椀vi琀椀es suppor琀椀ng short, medium and long‑term tailings
solu琀椀ons at Capricorn Copper progressed during the
Repor琀椀ng Period, including submission of an applica琀椀on
to authorise the interim resump琀椀on of tailings deposi琀椀on
in the Esperanza Pit to provide tailings capacity un琀椀l an
applica琀椀on, approval and construc琀椀on of a proposed new
long term tailings storage facility (TSF3) at the site
Proposed TSF4 (Golden Grove) and TSF3 (Capricorn Copper),
subject to regulatory approvals, will be modern, engineered
TSFs, designed to provide tailings capacity for the life of the
respec琀椀ve mines
Mine closure and
rehabilitation
Continued focus on
progressive rehabilitation
and closure planning
During the Repor琀椀ng Period, both Capricorn Copper and
Golden Grove opera琀椀ons progressed new or updated holis琀椀c
rehabilita琀椀on and closure plans in line with recent changes to
the relevant state policies and guidelines
23. Water reduc琀椀on performance cited is to 31 December 2023 and prior to the impact of successive tropical cyclones referred to
in 29Metals’ announcement regarding the suspension of mining and milling opera琀椀ons. Refer to page 3 for further informa琀椀on.
